Public Exhibition: September 15 – November 1, 2011

Four years ago, SceneFour partners Cory Danziger and Ravi Dosaj embarked on a project to unite the worlds of music and visual art. With a wishlist and two lifetimes of ideas, they approached some of the world's most influential musicians with the aim of collaborating with each of them on a series of fine art pieces that would immortalize them on canvas as their music has onstage. Two years later, Village Voice named their Victory Or Death collaboration with RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan "the greatest painting of 2010". And now, after works with Chuck D of Public Enemy, Bootsy Collins, Shavo Odadjian of System Of A Down, Matt Sorum of Guns 'N Roses fame, Stephen Perkins of Jane's Addiction, Angelo Moore of Fishbone, Frankie "Kash" Waddy of Parliament/Funkadelic, Page Hamilton of Helmet and George Lynch of Dokken, SceneFour presents "Come Together", an exclusive exhibition at Andrew Weiss Gallery in Beverly Hills, CA where Danziger and Dosaj will finally display these groundbreaking canvases in person, with a little help from the stars on the wishlist that started it all.

The creation of each piece is an intensive process spanning a year or more, with SceneFour and the musician working intimately together every step. “The musicians we’re working with are the most talented on the planet, and that talent stretches beyond simply music. The evidence is seen in how each piece turns out,” says Danziger. When the artwork is completed, a limited number of giclee duplicates are made with all in the series numbered, signed and often manipulated individually by the collaborating musician, spontaneously adorning each canvas with anything from song lyrics to handprints to cut-up cigarette cartons, making each piece a true original.

Dosaj and Danziger began their creative journey in 2004 with The Original Lefty’s, an anti-war clothing line that fused rock imagery with political messages. Carried in more than 100 stores nationwide, The Original Lefty’s most notorious image featured President George W. Bush wearing KISS makeup, with words DISS above it. SceneFour has also provided design and conceptual for Al Gore’s Current Television, MTV-U, and fashion house Bishop of Seventh, as well as graphics for releases by Nine Inch Nails, My Chemical Romance and The Pixies. SceneFour is also the co-owner of Funk University with Bootsy Collins, an online learning institution for bass players worldwide.

“Come Together"'s September 14 opening night will be a private reception, with RZA, Bootsy Collins, Chuck D, Stephen Perkins and many more of SceneFour's legendary collaborators slated to walk the red carpet at Andrew Weiss Gallery. The exhibition will be open to the public through November 1.

To celebrate the 20th year of his band HELMET, Page Hamilton gave fans the unexpected. He created a piece of artwork featuring 200 drafts. Each piece is currently being augmented by Page to feature the lyrics of different songs in the HELMET catalog based upon purchasers requests.

The first batch in Angelo Moore fine art series "The Last Upper" went fast. REALLY FAST. Moore loved the creation process and was eager to start a new round of his canvas collection, where he plays all of the characters in the famous Last Supper piece. The project is being done in conjunction with the 30th Anniversary of Fishbone.

Exploring The Band’s Two Decades In Rock

Los Angeles, CA—Over the last 20 years, Helmet has blazed an explosive musical path finding an audience in every corner of the world and influencing an impressive swell of bands in their wake. To mark the band’s 20th year in music, Helmet lead singer and guitarist Page Hamilton began a project unlike any he’d done before, exploring and revealing the origin of Helmet’s sound and lyrics through visual art. His exploration resulted in; “Close to Home”— 200 original canvases inspired by the music of Helmet.

Giving music and art lovers alike a unique opportunity to creatively explore the band’s journey, the backdrop of each canvas in the series is a graphic art collage by Hamilton symbolizing the American landscape that resulted in the Helmet sound. With each of the 200 drafts, Hamilton is personally augmenting each piece with the addition of lyrics from the entire Helmet catalog, as well as adding artistic embellishments to make each a mixed media contemporary art piece. The result is a collection of 200 one-of-a-kind canvases, all measuring 40” x 30,” and available exclusively at www.legacyofhelmet.com.

The process of creation is a rather lengthy one for Hamilton. The entire project is set to take ten months to complete. With the “Close to Home” landscape gicléed onto 200 canvases, Hamilton is embarking on the augmenting process methodically incorporating elements like acrylics, spray paints, stencils, and found objects to the canvases in the series to make each unique and a visual interpretation of an individual song per piece.

To produce the project, Hamilton worked with notorious Los Angeles creativity house SceneFour and their Legacy of Ten division. SceneFour assisted in the art direction and project management of the “Close to Home” undertaking. SceneFour’s Creative Director Cory Danziger comments, “Page wanted to do something exceptional, and he nailed it with the art series…a masterful vision from a music visionary.” As for the motivation by the Helmet leader to start the project, Hamilton states, “When my 7th grade art teacher Mrs. Smith made me destroy my clay bust of Einstein as punishment for throwing balls of clay in the classroom, my art career came to an abrupt halt. Now that I’m at an 8th grade art level I’ve decided to resume it. Close to Home is the result.”

A Residency with TLC - first pop artists to work with S4's Legacy of Ten

On July 23, 2009, it was officially announced that SceneFour will be working on a canvas collection for release in early 2010 with pop group TLC. With more than 45 million records sold worldwide, TLC is the biggest selling girl group in music history.

The collection, containing a total of 200 canvases will begin production in October with a release date to be determined, but anticipated to fall in the first quarter of next year. The creative behind the piece will take place in Atlanta, Georgia. More details coming soon...

Helmet frontman Page Hamilton was in the downtown Los Angeles SceneFour office today. Page came in to review elements and ideas for the upcoming series of 100 paintings he's putting together with SceneFour for the Legacy of Ten which will be debuting before year's end.

The process of creating art collections can be pretty intense for an individual, but doing it in collaboration is a whole other ball of wax. It can be an experience that doesn't begin with art, but instead with establishing a repoire and an understanding of where everyone is coming from visually, artistically, and theoretically. It's necessary to vibe and dig with those that you are going to be vulnerable with artistically.

Case in point, Helmet's Page Hamilton who Cory and Ravi have courted for some time to get involved in a project together.

It's no surprise that the SceneFour boys wanted to work with Page from onset of Legacy of Ten. His music is superb as is his reputation as an innovative guitar player. But what I witnessed today, as the boys sat with Page reviewing imagery, books, and photos was three "guys" looking to understand each other before they started to throw ideas around. Yes, they talked about the upcoming canvas series, but mostly they talked about life continually finding common ground that will be utilized as the design and art begins.
